About

Adelaide of Normandy (c.1030-c.1090), Countess of Aumale, was the sister of William the Conqueror; daughter of Duke Robert the Magnificent. Married in turn to Enguerrand of Ponthieu, Lambert of Lens and Odo of Champagne, she held Aumale in her own right and appears in Domesday's orbit as one of the few women of the Conquest generation with an honour of her own. Through her daughter Judith of Lens her blood runs to the Scottish queens and to us.

Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED (Wikipedia 'Adelaide of Normandy', web-confirmed 7 Aug 2026). LOOP: wired as a daughter of Robert I 'the Magnificent' (I99862), Duke of Normandy; already in the tree as father of the Conqueror; so Maud of Huntingdon's line braids into the Norman ducal house. CAVEAT: Adelaide's maternity is debated (commonly given as full sister of the Conqueror, i.e. by Herleva); linked to Robert I's line on the mainstream view, the maternal detail not asserted beyond that. Added 7 Aug 2026 (cheap-win audit): a documented rung previously left as a floor. Direct-ancestor line only; collateral kin not wired.
