Margaret of Huntingdon. Added 24 Aug 2026. ||CP-CITED 24 Aug 2026 (Cokayne CP1, GALLOWAY headnote p.5, supplied by Aynsley)|| 'The ancient Lords of Galloway... came to an end with ALAN, Lord of Galloway, Constable [S.], who d. s.p.m. 1233, leaving 3 daughters and coheirs, of whom one, DEVORGILDA (da. of his SECOND wife, Margaret of Scotland) was mother of JOHN BALIOL, KING OF SCOTLAND, 1292-96.' CP thus confirms at page grade: the Constableship, the death without surviving male issue (CP 1233; some modern accounts 1234), the three coheiresses, and - the placement that matters here - Dervorguilla as daughter of the SECOND wife, our Margaret of Huntingdon. The lordship afterwards went by grant to Edward Bruce (c.1310) and the Douglases (1368-1455), then to the crown - the Stewart Earls of Galloway (cr.1623) are a different creation entirely, not this house.
