About
Alice Swayne died on 10 January 1599 and her memorial brass survives in Monxton church in Hampshire, naming her mother unto Arthur Swayne. The brass gives her age in Roman numerals that two careful transcribers have read differently, eighty-eight by one count and ninety-eight by the other, so she was born within a year or two of 1510 and the record keeps both readings honestly.

"Alice Swayne, mother unto Arthur Swayne" - brass monument in Monxton church, Hampshire; died 10 Jan 1599. AGE DISCREPANCY (noted July 2026): transcriptions differ - "aged lxxxviii" (88, hence b. ~1511) vs the VCH Hampshire reading "aged lxxxxviii" (98, hence b. ~1501); unresolved, birth left as ABT 1511. Arthur's father is not identified in the surviving record; TNA holds the will of Arthur Swayne, Gentleman of Sarson (Discovery D945319) - ordering it is the obvious next step.
