||NO LONGER AN END OF LINE - 7 Aug 2026|| ✓ The White family book states her descent in one sentence: 'My Paternal Grandmother, MARY IEVERS, was the only child of Henry Ievers, Esq., by his wife, ANNE CRAVEN, DAUGHTER OF MARY SEWARD, who was DAUGHTER OF MARY ORANGE, and I can trace no higher in this direction.' So her MOTHER was MARY SEWARD (I100377) and her GRANDMOTHER MARY ORANGE (I100378) - two generations gained on a line that had been closed. Their husbands are not named. ⚠ THE SEWARD NAME MATTERS HERE: this family has a standing open question about a Seward connection, and this is a DIRECT Seward ancestress rather than the collateral one already noted (George Ievers m. a Seward of co. Cork c.1700, Burke's LGI p.342). The book adds only that 'the family of Seward was probably descended from Siward a Dane' - a guess of the writer's, not evidence, and NOT carried into the tree. It also says 'The Cravens have their name not from being cowards, but from the Manor of Craven in Yorkshire' - again tradition, not evidence. ⚠ See the large conflict flagged on her daughter Mary Ievers (I81031) about WHICH Henry Ievers she married. THE AUTHOR: John Davis White (1820-1893) of Cashel, printer, antiquary and author of 'Cashel of the Kings' - a PROFESSIONAL ANTIQUARY, not a casual memoirist, which raises this book's standing appreciably. He was a GRANDSON of Newport White of Kilmoylan by Mary Ievers, through their youngest son Benjamin (b. c.1776), and therefore a NEPHEW of our Richard White. GRADING: strong where he transcribes wills, deeds and dates - he prints them at length and they check out; weaker on inherited family tradition, which he passes on without warrant. Graded accordingly throughout. HIS OWN STATEMENT OF METHOD, from the Preface (image ulsc:3183-11): 'As I shall set down nothing but what I believe to be true, these pages may supply useful evidence (BY THE WANT OF WHICH MONEY AND PROPERTY ARE OFTEN LOST TO THE RIGHTFUL OWNER) after I am gathered to my fathers' - and he adds that 'in after years it may, possibly, be of importance to prove the seniority of one branch of the family above another, or the connection which one party bore to another'.
