About
Anscar I (d. c.902), Margrave of Ivrea, was a Burgundian nobleman who crossed the Alps in the service of King Guy of Spoleto and was rewarded with the new march of Ivrea, guarding Italy's north-western passes. The chronicler Liudprand remembered him as a fighter of reckless bravado. From him came the house of Ivrea; kings of Italy for a generation, counts of Burgundy for centuries, kings in Spain by descent; and, far downstream, this family.
