About
Arnulf II (c.960-988), Count of Flanders, inherited as a child and spent his short rule recovering what the French king had taken during his minority. Grandson of the long-ruling Arnulf the Great, he kept the comital house; descended from Alfred the Great's daughter and from Charlemagne; in being for the great Baldwins who followed. Our line to Matilda of Flanders, the Conqueror's queen, runs through him.
