Art Mor MacMurrough Kavanagh was the great king of Leinster who fought Richard the Second of England to a standstill and kept the Gaelic revival alive in the south-east for sixty years. He is the secure head of the wired Kavanagh kings; the line traditionally runs on from him, through the medieval kings of Leinster, to Domhnall Caomhanach son of Diarmait MacMurchada, but those intervening thirteenth-century links are matters of the annals and O'Hart, not securely evidenced generation by generation, and are left as an honest edge rather than hardened.
