✓ Aveline, 3rd wife of Maurice fitz Thomas, 1st Earl of Desmond (I100237), m. before 20 Apr 1344 (Patent Roll 18 Edw. III); his widow 1356, had livery of dower 10 Feb 1357/8, living 14 Mar 1358/9. MOTHER OF GERALD 'the Poet', 3rd Earl (I100236): CP IV p.243 n.b 'He was son of the 1st Earl by his 3rd wife, Aveline' - which makes her, not Katherine de Burgh (d.1331), the ancestress of this line. ~ PARENTAGE note-only: CP says she was 'said to have been da. of Nicholas fitz Morice of Kerry' (= Nicholas 2nd Baron, I99544, whose Burke's entry also lists a daughter Aveline m. the Earl of Desmond); 'if this was the case, Aveline was sister of Morice fitz Nicholas of Kerry', captured by the Earl in 1339 and died in his prison. Not wired to Nicholas, per CP's hedge. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. IV (1916), 'Desmond' pp.232-250 (article by G.W. Watson), read 25-26 Oct 2026 (archive.org djvu text).
