About
Bartholomew, first Lord Badlesmere, was steward of the King's household and one of the great men of Edward the Second's reign until he changed sides. After his wife's defiance at Leeds Castle he joined the rebellion, and he was hanged, drawn and quartered at Canterbury in 1322, in the same purge that killed Roger Damory.

✓ DOCUMENTED (Entered 23 Jul 2026 under the relaxed rule (standard, undisputed peerage/royal account; provenance so noted).): BARTHOLOMEW, 1ST LORD BADLESMERE (b. ~1275), of Badlesmere, Kent; steward of the Household; joined the Contrariants against Edward II and was HANGED AT BLEAN BY CANTERBURY 14 Apr 1322 after Boroughbridge - the same purge that ended Roger Damory (the paternal legend's baron: the two men died rebels in the same season).
