About
Beatrice of Vermandois (c.880-aft.931) was a Carolingian bride for the rising Robertian house: great-great-granddaughter of Charlemagne through the counts of Vermandois, she married Robert, the future King Robert I. Her son Hugh the Great and grandson Hugh Capet founded Capetian France; so that the new dynasty carried the old one's blood, through her, from its first day. She is our ancestress twice over, through Vermandois and through the kings.
