Blanche de la Roche was of the Norman-Irish lords of Fermoy, and she married John FitzGerald, the first Earl of Kildare. Mother of the second Earl and of Joan, she stands twice in this ancestry - both her children are rungs - and the Roche name returns to the tree again three centuries later on the Barry side: Cork's families kept meeting.
