About
Boso of Arles was the son of Count Rotbald, who had followed Louis the Blind to Italy in 900; above Rotbald the family's descent, back toward the kings of Provence, is genuinely contested and is left as an honest frontier.
Research notes
BOSO II of ARLES, Count of Arles and Avignon (c.928-965/7); father of William I the Liberator (our line). DOCUMENTED FLOOR of the Provence spine: the deeper Bosonid ancestry above him is contested and left note-only, not wired. Standard well-documented medieval royal/comital genealogy per the cited authorities; rungs graded, contested parentage marked note-only, not hardened. UPDATE 25 Oct 2026: father Rotbald I wired ✓ (charter 965); nothing above him.
