About
Charles of Lorraine was the last legitimate male-line Carolingian claimant to the French crown: passed over for Hugh Capet in 987, he fought for his inheritance, was betrayed at Laon, and died a prisoner. With his sons the male line of Charlemagne guttered out - but his daughters carried the blood on, and one of them carries it into this tree.
