Chrotrud (Martel)

~ Chrotrud (Rotrude) (d. 724/25: Annales Mosellani 'Chrothrud'), first wife of Charles Martel and mother of Pepin III - deduced by Settipani from the Reichenau confraternity list ('Karolus maior domus, Pippin rex... Ruadtrud'); 'the primary source which specifically names the first wife of Charles Martel has not been identified' - hence ~. Her parentage (Lambert of Hesbaye; or Leutwinus of Trier) is speculation - not wired. Source: Medieval Lands (fmg.ac, Cawley), 'Franks, Merovingian Nobility - Maiordomi (Pippinids, Arnulfings)'.
