Constance Long was the daughter of a London wineseller and she married a Lord Kerry about 1665. Her granddaughter was christened Constantia after her, which is the small onomastic detail that corroborates the whole Piers and Hunt junction: daughters in these families were named backwards, and the name arrives exactly where it should.

✓ DOCUMENTED (Cokayne III pp.308-09; Burke's LANSDOWNE lineage p.2239: m. c. 1665): CONSTANCE, "da. of WILLIAM LONG, WINESELLER, OF THE ROSE TAVERN, COVENT GARDEN, LONDON"; wife of William FitzMaurice, 18th (al. 20th) Baron Kerry; mother of Honora (m. Sir William Piers 2nd Bt - our line) and of Thomas, 1st EARL OF KERRY. A Covent Garden vintner's daughter who became a baroness and grandmother of an earl. Her granddaughter CONSTANTIA Piers (our line) carries her name. Direct ancestress. Added 21 Jul 2026; father's trade added same day.
