About

Cornelius Sheehan was a labourer, and he is known from a single line on his daughter Honora's Cork marriage record of November 1865. He was probably of Castlemagner in north Cork, where Honora was born in 1842. His forename is the reason he can be trusted: it turns up again, unexpectedly, on a grandson christened Cornelius Elliott in a family with no other Cornelius in it, which is the kind of quiet corroboration a naming pattern can give when the registers cannot.

Research notes

Labourer; father of Honora Sheehan, named on her 4 Nov 1865 Cork civil marriage record (Cork North East, entry 113; obtained 5 Jul 2026) - DOCUMENTED. Presumably of Castlemagner, north Cork, where Honora was born 1842 (not yet tested against Castlemagner registers). His forename explains his grandson Cornelius Elliott's otherwise un-Elliott name - a naming-grid corroboration of the Sheehan link running true. Aynsley's maternal 3x great-grandfather. Added 5 Jul 2026. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
