✓ Domhnall Ruadh Mac Carthaigh, King of Desmond c.1262-1302. AI 1281.5 'Domnall Ruad Mac Carthaig, king of Desmumu'; AI 1296.5 'king of Desmumu, was stricken by illness ... and renounced and abjured his sins'; AI 1301/2.2: 'Domnall Ruad Mac Carthaig, high-king of Desmumu for the space of forty years, [one] whom [...] of Ireland trusted for [his] good sense and for subduing enemies, who had surpassed everyone of that time in generosity, prowess, comeliness ... who was subject to neither Gaedel nor foreigner', died. Sons: Tadhg (d. 20 Apr 1296, 'a most affluent and vigorous royal heir'), Domhnall Óg (k. 1306, our line), Carthach and Seón Ruad (both d. 1308). TOP - PARENTAGE DELIBERATELY LEFT OPEN: the standard pedigrees make him son of Cormac Fionn (d. 1247), but the Annals of Inisfallen gloss at 1264.4 reads 'Domnall Gall Mac Carthaig was taken prisoner by Domnall Ruad, {his own son}' (the braces marking an interpolation), and a different Domnall Ruad, son of Cormac Liathánach, was put to death in 1245 - the sources conflict, so no father is wired. Source: Annals of Inisfallen (Mac Airt ed. 1944), CELT T100004, read 26 Oct 2026. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 26 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||26 Oct 2026|| PARENTAGE RESOLVED - father wired: Mac Carthaigh's Book 1262.2 'Domhnall Ruadh son of Cormac Fionn Mac Carthaigh' (marching with the Justiciar and the Geraldines to Callan). The Inisfallen 1264.4 gloss 'his own son' [of Domnall Gall] is a scribal error; the Domnall Ruad k. 1245 was Cormac Liathánach's son, a cousin.
