About

Edgar 'the Peaceful' (943-975), King of the English, ruled an England so secure that no invasion troubled his reign; the harvest of his predecessors' wars and his own fleet. With Dunstan, Æthelwold and Oswald he drove the great monastic reform, and his imperial coronation at Bath in 973, devised by Dunstan, became the template of every English coronation since; afterwards, famously, six or eight kings of Britain rowed him on the Dee at Chester. Our line runs through his son Æthelred.
