About

Edmund FitzAlan, ninth Earl of Arundel, stood by Edward II and the Despensers to the end and was beheaded at Hereford in November 1326 with the revolution triumphant - by some accounts with a blunt blade and twenty strokes. He had married Alice de Warenne, and his son recovered the earldom the axe had forfeited. He and the hanged Despenser whose cause he shared are both direct ancestors here, fellow victims of the same terrible month.
