Edward Damery, or Dammery, of Tullyglass emigrated to Victoria in 1863 with his wife Sarah Jane Barr and founded the Australian branch of the family. He is the great-grandfather of Ted Dammery, the Melbourne cousin whose letters and family history underpin much of what this family knows about itself.

THE MELBOURNE EMIGRANT - head of the Australian (Dammery) branch. Son of John Damery of Tullyglass (1805-1880) x Elizabeth Waters, bapt. Murragh 24 Feb 1839 (sponsor Frances Waters) - grade: documented (the Murragh register join). Left Tullyglass for Australia 1863 after the estate passed by seniority ("the eldest son of the youngest son" - Ted Dammery); first NSW (met his future wife at Tamworth), then Melbourne; m. Sarah Jane Barr, Melbourne, 16 Jul 1867; registered his children DAMMERY, the spelling the branch carries today. Died of phthisis (TB) after a two-year decline, AGED 52 - death cert VIC reg. 17402/1891 (image in project) SETTLES the age (Ted's "died at 56" was a slip). The cert re-states his parents - "John Dammery, GENTLEMAN; Eliza formerly Waters" - the second Australian record naming both; gives 26 years in Victoria (arr. ~1865; compatible with 1863 to NSW first); marriage "Prahran at 28 to Sarah Barr"; the five children with matching ages; informant son John (20); buried St Kilda Cemetery 17 Oct 1891 (grave to find). Birthplace written "[T/G]ullyglass, England [sic]". JOIN NOW CERTIFICATE-DOCUMENTED (16 Jul 2026): his Victorian marriage registration (reg. 3189/1867, image in project folder) gives birthplace "Tully Glass, Cork, Ireland" and parents "John Dammery x Eliza, maiden name WATERS" - independent primary confirmation of the Murragh join, from the Australian end. NB cert gives his age as 27 (bp. 1839 = 28, normal wobble) and father's rank "labourer" (John of Tullyglass was a farmer; informant simplification).
