About

Edward John Barr Dammery, always Ted, of East Malvern in Melbourne, was the Australian branch's historian. He compiled a family history about 1978, went to the College of Arms and came away with a genuine grant of arms under the motto Allons en Avant, and in 1994, at the age of eighty-nine, began the correspondence with Norman Damery in Cork that this family's whole modern research grew out of. He wrote in a strong sloping hand, dispensed seventy years of family tradition with total confidence and no citations whatever, and was right about a great deal more than anybody credited at the time.

Research notes

"COUSIN TED" - the Melbourne branch's historian, of East Malvern, Melbourne; author of the c.1978 family report and the hand-drawn pedigree; held a College of Arms grant (confirmed genuine by the College); corresponded with Norman Damery 1994. m. Catherine Ellen Searle 22 Apr 1935 (Brisbane); survived her 21 years. DIED 6 JUL 2006 "late of Malvern East", AGED 102 - Ryerson Index (searched 16 Jul 2026): death notices Courier Mail (Brisbane), Herald Sun, The Age, SMH, all published 11 Jul 2006; probate notice The Age 9 Aug 2006. Grade: documented (multiple contemporary notices; the notices themselves + probate file not yet obtained - follow up for obituary text). AGE 102 CORROBORATES THE 1904 BIRTH: Sue's sheet prints "1905" (would make him 101) - Ted's own 8 May 1904 now double-confirmed. He lived to 102, a centenarian, dying twelve years after the Norman correspondence. Death independently confirmed by Sue Dammery ("Uncle Ted died in 2006 aged 102", FB message to Aynsley, 16 Jul 2026). PHARMACIST - as was his brother John William; the two "travelled around Queensland together during the Depression" (Sue, FB 16 Jul 2026) - which explains how a Melbourne man met Catherine Searle of Barcaldine (outback QLD) and married in Brisbane, 1935. Grade for occupation/travels: ~ family knowledge, first-hand (niece). Added Jul 2026; death found same month.

Marriage: Place per Catherine's 1985 death cert (VIC reg. 16877/1985): married Brisbane at 33. Sue Dammery's "Barcaldine Q" annotation resolved as Catherine's BIRTHPLACE, not the marriage place. Qld marriage registration (open, >75 yrs) to pull for full detail - follow up. Date 22 Apr 1935: Ted's pedigree + Sue's ink, cert-consistent.
