Edward Loftus of Swineshead in Yorkshire was the father of two sons who both did well out of Ireland: Robert, whose son became first Viscount Loftus of Ely, and Adam, who became Archbishop of Dublin, Lord Chancellor of Ireland and the first Provost of Trinity College. This family descends from the Archbishop.
