About
Gerald of Windsor was a Norman castellan in south Wales, constable of Pembroke, and he married the Welsh princess Nest. Their descendants took the name FitzGerald and went on to conquer a good deal of Ireland. He held Pembroke through a siege by starving the Welsh out with a deception involving four hogsheads of salted pork.
