About

Gerberga of Lower Lorraine was a granddaughter of Louis IV of France and daughter of Charles, Duke of Lower Lorraine; the last Carolingian claimant to the French throne, passed over in 987 when the crown went to Hugh Capet. Through her marriage to Lambert I of Louvain she carried the blood of Charlemagne's male line into the counts of Louvain and dukes of Brabant, and through them to us: she is this family's Carolingian gateway on the Louvain road.
