Research notes
GILBERT GIFFARD, King's Marshal under Henry I; father of John Marshal (our line). *** DOCUMENTED HEAD of the Marshal family; origins above note-only. Direct ancestor. || DO-NOT-CONFLATE 14 Sep 2026: no proven relation between Gilbert Giffard the Marshal's family and the Giffards of Longueville, despite the surname (six-floor survey ruling) - do not graft him onto Walter Giffard's new Bolbec ascent.
