Gundred was long, and famously, claimed to be a daughter of William the Conqueror himself; that descent is now rejected by the historians, and she is recorded here as what she securely was, the wife of the first Earl Warenne, with no royal parentage hardened.

Her once-claimed descent from William the Conqueror is REJECTED and deliberately NOT wired; parentage left open. Standard well-documented Anglo-Norman comital genealogy per the cited authorities; contested rungs marked note-only, not hardened. ||⚠ PARENTAGE CONTROVERSY - NEVER ROYAL-WIRE (CP1 SURREY pp.324-25, 24 Aug 2026)|| The old claim that Gundred was a daughter of William the Conqueror and Queen Matilda - once 'the most prevalent opinion', on which 'Royal descents were freely furnished for the innumerable descendants of the said Gundred' - is DISPROVEN (Chester Waters, Freeman EHR Oct 1888; Anselm's own consanguinity arithmetic forbids it). Her parentage stays genuinely unknown ('stirps ducum' possibly the ducal house of Burgundy). She remains an honest floor.
