About
Hawise, daughter of Giroie, married Robert de Grandmesnil and bore him Hugh. Widowed, she married a nephew of Queen Emma, and her daughter by him, Judith, became the wife of Roger, Count of Sicily. Her second husband stole an illuminated psalter from his father the archbishop's chamber to please her, and the monks of Saint-Evroult were still chanting from it when Orderic wrote.

✓ ORDERIC FIRST-HAND (vol.1 pp.408, 413, 419-20): HAWISE, dau. of GIROIE by Gisela dau. of Turstin de Bastembourg; m.(1) Robert de Grandmesnil - son Hugh (our line); m.(2) William son of Robert Abp of Rouen - dau. Judith m. Roger Count of Sicily (collateral colour: Hugh's half-sister a countess of Sicily). Her dowry lands were bought back for 40 livres of Rouen by her monk son. Added 14 Sep 2026.
