About
Helena Byron, a daughter of Sir John Byron of Clayton in Lancashire, became the first Lady Mountjoy. Her family's house in the male line went on to Newstead and, in time, to the poet: Lord Byron's people were of her stock, which puts a thread of the same blood behind both Childe Harold and this family.
