Research notes

✓ Helewise de Stuteville, younger daughter of Robert III de Stuteville of Cottingham (d. c.1183); wife 1st of William II de Lancaster (d. 1184), 2ndly of Hugh de Morville of Burgh-by-Sands (d. 1202), 3rdly (after 1201) of William fitz Ralph; living 1226/28. Henry II's charter names 'Helewisam de Stuteville' as wife of 'Willielmum secundum' and mother of his daughter Helewise. Her father not yet wired - NOTE the tree already holds Margery de Stuteville of Gressenhall (I101144), of the Norfolk branch of the same family: a potential ring above her (both lines descend from Robert I de Stuteville, fl. 1106). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 27 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||27 Oct 2026 - RING|| ✓ Second marriage wired: after William II de Lancaster's death (1184) she m. Hugh de Morville of Burgh-by-Sands (d. 1201) - 'Hug de Morevill et Helew uxer eius' fined 1200 for her dower in Westmorland; the co-identity is proved by Hugh's charter, with 'sponsae meae Helewisae', confirming Forton to Henry de Lancastre as his father Warin had it from 'Willelmi de Lancastre avunculi sui'. Their daughter Ada de Morville m. Richard de Lucy of Egremont, so Helewise is an ancestress twice: through the Lancaster heiress (Brus - Thweng - Westropp) and through the Morville heiress (Lucy - Multon - FitzWalter). She m. 3rdly (after 1201) William fitz Ralph of Greystoke; living 1226/28.
