Henry de Boneberi is the first of the Bunburys named in Ormerod's pedigree of the family, in the reign of King Stephen. Above him the family's origin is recorded but unnamed: a younger son of the house of Saint Pierre in Normandy, who took the name of the Cheshire manor he was given.

King Stephen (1135-54) - the first-named of the family in Ormerod's pedigree; his younger brother David de Boneberi bore 'a lion passant'. *** THE ORIGIN ABOVE HIM = NOTE-ONLY (Ormerod/Dugdale, authoritative but unnamed): the Boneberis/Bunburys sprang from '...DE ST PIERRE, A YOUNGER BROTHER OF THE HOUSE OF ST PIERRE IN NORMANDY', who took the name Boneberi/Bunbury from the manor. NB the grander Malpas/Powys/Marshal/Braose/Trussell links (Visitation of Shropshire 'St Peter of Cause') belong to the SENIOR St Pierre of Cause line, NOT this Bunbury cadet branch - kept firmly note-only and NOT claimed for the direct line.
