About
Henry Jones took the lease of Drombeg from the Hollow Sword Blades Company on 27 October 1708, and with that piece of parchment he founded a family that would hold that hillside above Glandore for the better part of three centuries. He was witnessing deeds by 1712, standing trustee for his neighbours by 1719, and was buried at Ross in July 1743. His wife is the family's oldest unanswered question: one nineteenth-century compiler calls her a Miss Townsend and gives no forename and no source, and the only real support for it is that two of his grandsons were christened with Townsend as a middle name. The stone circle known as the Druids' Altar stood in the fields he leased, and his descendants took their tea on it for two hundred years.

THE FOUNDER AT DROMBEG. Took the lease of Drombeg from the Hollow Sword Blades Company 27 October 1708; witnessed deeds 1712-13; stood trustee in Registry of Deeds memorial 13570 (1719); buried at Ross 9 July 1743. Birth re-estimated ABT 1685 (the old "1703" was unsourced, almost certainly the family's arrival-in-1703 tradition misread as a birth year; he was an adult by 1708). HIS WIFE IS UNRECORDED: Brady's Clerical and Parochial Records alone calls her "Miss Townsend", no forename, no source; unproven. For it: grandsons named Edward Townsend Jones and John Townsend Jones in the 1774 will. Against it: no Jones-Townsend bond in the Cork & Ross index; no pre-1867 Jones marriage in the Townsend one-name study; the Castlehaven register begins only in 1782. Entered as an open question, not a person. A "Mary Jones late of Droumbeg" buried at Ross 24 May 1761 is possibly his widow (a 1737 Gates will names a daughter Mary, wife of a Henry Jones) but a second Henry Jones of Great Connell muddies it; not attached. CORRECTED Jul 2026: memorial 13570, read in full, is the marriage settlement of William Honners and Ann Lambley with Henry standing TRUSTEE, not the bridegroom; the tree previously married him to Ann Lambley on this deed. Daughters per the 1776 will of his nephew Alexander Martin, cross-checked against the Cork & Ross marriage licence bonds. Corrected and expanded Jul 2026.
