Henry Percy 1st Baron Percy

Henry Percy, first Lord Percy of Alnwick, bought the great Northumbrian castle in 1309 and founded upon it the house that would dominate the North for four centuries - the Percys of Alnwick, of Otterburn and Shrewsbury and every border ballad. He fought through Edward I's Scottish wars, married Eleanor FitzAlan of the Arundel house, and died in 1314, weeks before Bannockburn would have claimed him.
