Henry the Fowler King of Germany

Henry the Fowler (c.876-936), Duke of Saxony and King of the Germans, was; legend says; at his fowling nets when the messengers came with the crown. First of the Saxon kings, he rebuilt the East Frankish kingdom around fortified towns and a new heavy cavalry, beat the Magyars at Riade in 933 after years of shrewdly bought truce, and refused anointing with a soldier's bluntness. He founded the Ottonian dynasty: his son was Emperor Otto the Great, and his daughter Gerberga carries our line.
