About
Hildegarde, second countess of the terrible Fulk Nerra of Anjou, matched her husband's ferocious piety if not his ferocity: she died at Jerusalem on 1 April 1046, a pilgrim at the end of the road her husband had thrice travelled in expiation of his sins. Her daughter Ermengarde carried the Angevin line onward - toward Fulk the king and the Plantagenets.
