About

Hildegarde of Burgundy (c.1050-after 1104), Duchess of Aquitaine, was a daughter of Duke Robert I of Burgundy, grandson of Hugh Capet. As wife of William VIII of Aquitaine she was mother of William IX, the 'first troubadour'; the earliest vernacular lyric poet whose work survives. The marriage required a papal dispensation for consanguinity that was slow in coming; the son it produced gave Europe a new poetry. Our line runs through him to Eleanor of Aquitaine.

Research notes

HILDEGARDE of BURGUNDY (c.1050-1104), daughter of Robert I Duke of Burgundy (I100016, already in the tree); wife of William VIII of Aquitaine; mother of William IX the Troubadour (our line). This rung LOOPS Aquitaine onto the existing Burgundy dukes. Standard well-documented medieval genealogy per the cited authorities; contested rungs note-only, not hardened.
