About
Hugh de Kevelioc, fifth Earl of Chester, joined the great rebellion of 1173 against Henry II, was captured, imprisoned, stripped, and restored - the standard price of a magnate's gamble in that reign. He died in 1181, leaving the palatine earldom to his son Ranulf de Blondeville and, through his daughter Hawise, Countess of Lincoln, a line that runs to this family.
