✓ James Butler, feudal Lord of Dunboyne, eldest son of Edmund; Lodge vi p.222: 'James, the eldest son, succeeded as Lord of Dunboyne, married Elinor, daughter of Mac-Carthy Reagh, and died in 1508, 24 Hen. VII, leaving Sir James Butler his successor'. WIVES NOTE-ONLY: CP IV p.516 n.(b) corrects Lodge - the Cal. of Patent and Close Rolls [I.] i pp.9-10 show he married both 'Elinor Taafe' and 'Catherine McCarthy', 'though he is usually credited with one wife, Elinor McCarthy, to whom Peerage writers have given the christian name of one and the surname of the other'. Neither the order of the marriages nor which was mother of James (d. 1533/4) is stated by any source read; no wife wired. Source: John Lodge, The Peerage of Ireland (Archdall ed., 1789), vol.
