✓ Joan du Marais (de Marisco), 'sister and in her issue coh. of John du Marais, da. of Geoffrey du M., Justiciar [I.]'; 1st wife of Theobald le Botiller, 2nd Chief Butler of Ireland (I100053); mother of Theobald the 3rd Butler (I100052), who was 's. and h. by the 1st wife, Joan' and of full age 11 June 1244 - i.e. born before his father's 2nd marriage to Rohese de Verdun (after 4 Sep 1225). CP II 'Butler' p.448 and n.(d): 'The first match only is mentioned in Lodge (vol. iv, p. 5), the second match only in Lynch (p. 81)' - which is how the older peerages, and this tree until today, made Rohese the 3rd Butler's mother. Rohese remains a direct ancestress through her daughter Maud le Botiller (I100176), wife of John FitzAlan. Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. II (1912), 'Butler' pp.447-449 (archive.org completepeerageo02coka), read 26 Oct 2026. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 26 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
