Joan de Somery

~ Joan, wife of Thomas de Berkeley (d.1243) and mother of Maurice de Berkeley ('Joan de Berkele...and...Maurice de Berkele her son', 2 Aug 1252). Smyth (Lives of the Berkeleys) calls her daughter of Sir Ralph de Somery, niece of William Marshal - her surname and parentage are not proved from a primary source (Medieval Lands brackets them). Source: Medieval Lands (fmg.ac, Cawley), 'English Lords A-C' (Berkeley). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 18 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] || 19 Oct 2026: linked ~ as daughter of Ralph [II] de Somery and Margaret Crassus (Smyth; Medieval Lands brackets it) - so a sister of Roger [IV] and a RING with the Botetourt-Somery line.
