Research notes
Of Birr, Co. Offaly; husband of Elizabeth Evans, named as father on the Birr baptism transcripts of Robert (1774), Sarah (1779), Elizabeth (1782) and John (1786) - DOCUMENTED (rootsireland transcripts). m. Elizabeth Evans 1771, Killaloe Diocese - DOCUMENTED as a marriage licence bond, upgraded 5 Jul 2026: PROI Killaloe bonds index "Evans, Elizth and John Elliott, 1771" (a CoI instrument; the bond itself burned 1922). Same index page: Mary Evans x George Acres bond 1774 - Evans/Acres intermarriage in the same diocese a generation before our Elliott x Acres match. CAUTION: a fifth claimed child, "David Mcelliot", bapt. 1 Sep 1777 at Carrigeen, CAHIR parish, Co. Tipperary, ROMAN CATHOLIC, father "John Mcelliot", mother "Elizabeth Evans" (sponsors John Dwyer, Elizabeth Keating), is DOUBTFUL - wrong county, wrong denomination, different surname form - treated as a probable false match and NOT entered. THE ELLIOTT LINE'S CURRENT END. Aynsley's maternal 5x great-grandfather on the ~ chain. Added July 2026. [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 24 Jul 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
Marriage: UPGRADED 5 Jul 2026 (evening): DOCUMENTED as a marriage licence bond - PROI "Marriage Licence Bonds, Diocese of Killaloe" index (image pulled by Aynsley): "Evans, Elizth and John Elliott, 1771". Index entry only (the bonds themselves burned 1922; no parish given), but the bond attests a real 1771 licence marriage - and a licence bond is a CHURCH OF IRELAND instrument, corroborating the family's CoI milieu before the Golden shift. BY-CATCH on the same page: "Evans, Mary and George ACRES, 1774" - the Evans and Acres families intermarrying in the same diocese three years later, a second thread between the two surnames a generation before Robert Elliott m. Alice Acres.
