✓ John (Barry), Lord Barry, Barrymore or Buttevant, called kittagh ('left-handed'), s. and h. of David 6th Lord; Sheriff of Cork 1401 and 1403-15 (the 'Vicecomes' of 1405/6 that a forged deed turned into 'Viscount'); 'He m. Ellice, da. of Gerald Fitz Maurice (Fitz Gerald), Earl of Desmond [I.]. He d. about 1420.' (CP I p.438). Father of William 8th Lord (I100448). Source: Complete Peerage 2nd edn vol. I (1910), 'Barry, Barrymore or Buttevant' pp.435-444 (early portion rewritten by G.D. Burtchaell from Rev. E. Barry's 'Barrymore', JCHAS 2nd ser. vols v-viii, 1899-1902), read 26 Oct 2026 (archive.org djvu text). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 26 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.] ||26 Oct 2026|| Death refined: AFM have a double entry, 1419 'Barrymore died' and 1420 'Barrymore, i.e. John, died', which Rev. E. Barry reads as the first quarter of 1420 (new style) = last quarter of 1419 (old style). He is 'John Kittagh de Barry, Lord of Olethan' and Rev. Barry warns that Archdall confounded him with Sir John de Barry of Ely O'Carroll (slain 1325) and with an earlier John FitzDavid Oge. Miss Hickson's statement that a 'John Kittagh Lord Barry' married Joan, sister of the 1st Earl of Desmond, belongs (if to anyone) to that earlier John, not to this one, whose wife per CP I is Ellice da. of Gerald 3rd Earl.
