About
John Pennefather of Marlow held the Tipperary estate in the eighteenth century, of the family that had come over with the Cromwellian settlement two generations earlier and had since married thoroughly into the Anglo-Irish gentry.

DOCUMENTED (upgraded July 2026 from Burke's LGI 'Pennefather of Marlow', read in print by Aynsley): 'John, whose only son, Thomas, s. to Marlow at the decease of his uncle' - 2nd son of William Pennefather of Marlow by Anne Taylor. The former soft link in this chain, now Burke's verbatim. INDEPENDENTLY CONFIRMED 14 Jul 2026 by a CONTEMPORARY record: Betham's abstract of the Prerogative will of Nathaniel Taylor of the city of Kilkenny, Esq (dated 19 Feb 1773, proved 11 June 1773 - image read from the Betham notebook, entry 243, p.104): the testator names 'nephew THOMAS PENNEFATHER of Marlow Esq' and 'nephew JOHN PENNEFATHER, BROTHER of said Thomas Pennefather' - i.e. William of Marlow's sons Thomas (the elder, then of Marlow) and John, alive 1773, nephews of their mother Anne Taylor's brother. The one link the Huleatt-Pennefather chain hung on is now doubly sourced. Same will names sisters Anne Pennefather (= Anne Taylor, William of Marlow's widow, alive 1773), Elizabeth LOWE, and Ellen Prince, brother Godfrey Taylor, and 'nephew Hamilton Lowe' (son of sister Elizabeth - NB a Taylor-line Hamilton Lowe, distinct from Hamilton Lowe of Roesgreen: see I99080 caution).
