Research notes

✓ Laure ('Lorette') de Saint-Valéry, mother of Cecily de Fontaines, wife of Hugh de Balliol - named in Hugh's Longpré charter of 1210 ('fille de sa mère Lorette de St Valery'); m. (1) after 1162 Jean I, Count of Ponthieu, as his second wife, repudiated before 1170; (2) Alleaume de Fontaines. Her filiation as daughter of Renaud [I] de Saint-Valéry (I101045) rests on Domesday Descendants (Keats-Rohan), cited by Medieval Lands without a primary source - link to Renaud graded ~. If sound, Renaud I is a DOUBLE ancestor: through his son Bernard III (St Valery - Braose) and through Laure (Fontaines - Balliol). Source: Medieval Lands (fmg.ac, Cawley), Scotland (Balliol) and Normandy Nobility (Saint-Valéry). [DIRECT ANCESTOR OF THE COMPILER: flag added 15 Oct 2026 by walking the tree from Aynsley, so that this marker is reliable and can be searched.]
