July 2026: independently corroborated as tradition by the Castleshane History article "The Lucas Family" (Research files): "Jasper Lucas settled at Youghal, Co. Cork in 1640," one of the related Suffolk (Bury St Edmunds-area) Lucases; "tradition has it" they descended from a Jaspar Lucas who came to Cork with Raleigh in the 1580s, great-uncle of the first Francis Lucas of Castleshane, Co. Monaghan. Chronology internally contradictory (1580s Raleigh arrival vs. 1640 settlement vs. b. c. 1640); grade stays ?. See "The Lucas of Youghal; Castleshane & Suffolk Tradition (Graded Note)".
