About
Mary Townsend was born about 1675, a daughter of Colonel Richard Townsend of Castletownshend and his first wife Hildegardis Hyde. The Townsends are one of the founding families of west Cork and this is the point at which they enter this tree.
Research notes
Mary Townsend (Townsend ref [111]), b. ca 1675; daughter of Col. Richard Townsend [100] and Hildegardis HYDE (2nd generation) - RESOLVED by the Townsend record (Rich Townsend's family records / "An Officer of the Long Parliament"), which names her father Col. Richard and mother "Hyde, Hildegardis". So Col. Richard is our 8x great-grandfather (she is his DAUGHTER, not a granddaughter) and HILDEGARDIS HYDE is our direct ancestress (NOT his other wife Mary Kingston). She married three times: (1) John Owen; (2) Daniel MacCarthy Reagh of Courtmacsherry, MP for Bandon, who raised a regiment of Foot for James II and d. 1691 (buried Timoleague); (3) Richard Beamish of Mount Beamish, 1695 (our line). Her daughter Jane Beamish married Thomas Beamish of Raheroon in 1728 (our line confirmed). Her son George Beamish of Mountbeamish married Frances, dau. of Henry Jones JP of Drombeg, in 1748 - a further Jones-of-Drombeg cousin link. Resolved June 2026.
Marriage: Richard Beamish x Mary Townsend, m. 1695. NB: the chart makes this couple Jane Beamish's parents; an alternative pedigree (Burke's-derived, in Jane's own note) names her father as Richard Beamish of Mountbeamish - the two Richards are not yet reconciled.
