Research notes

✓ DOCUMENTED (web-confirmed 25 Jul 2026): MAUD (Matilda) OF GLOUCESTER, Countess of Chester (c.1120-1189), dau. of ROBERT, 1ST EARL OF GLOUCESTER (I99583, the acknowledged natural son of Henry I, already in this tree) by Mabel FitzHamon; m. Ranulf de Gernon, 4th Earl of Chester. Mother of Hugh de Kevelioc (our line). *** A SECOND CHESTER LOOP: her line rejoins the existing Robert of Gloucester - so Hugh de Kevelioc descends from Henry I by this route too. Direct ancestress.
