About

Maurice FitzMaurice FitzGerald, Justiciar of Ireland, carried the Geraldine banner through the disaster at Callann in 1257, where the MacCarthys broke the family's southern ambitions, and spent the rest of his career rebuilding from the wreck, dying in 1286. By his first wife Maud de Prendergast, granddaughter of one of the first invaders, he was father of Juliana, who married Thomas de Clare of Thomond - and through her this line braids the invaders and the invaded together yet again.
