About
Rhys ap Tewdwr was King of Deheubarth in south-west Wales and the last of the old line to hold it against the Normans. He was killed near Brecon in 1093, and Welsh independence in the south died with him. His daughter Nest carried his blood into the Norman world and, through her sons, into Ireland.
