About
Richard Damery of Ballymodan is where this family's proven descent begins. He was farming near Bandon from about 1752, and his children are in the register from that year. His own baptism is not: the Ballymodan register has lost it, and the only likely-looking entry turns out to belong to an infant who died the following summer. He is almost certainly a grandson of the Richard and Margaret Damery who were burying family in Bandon in the 1690s, but that step cannot be proved, so the documented line starts here rather than one generation higher. Everything in this family that can be demonstrated runs down from him.

Richard Damery of Ballymodan, m. Ann; HEAD OF THE DOCUMENTED LINE (children from 1752: John 1752, William 1754, John 1760, Mary 1761). His own baptism is NOT in the surviving Ballymodan register; the "Richard, son of William" baptised 16 Apr 1727 was a different child, buried 1 Jul 1728. Parentage unproven: probably a grandson of Richard & Margaret Damery of Bandon (c.1690), the earliest documented Damerys, but the link cannot be proven and the deeper line shown above is an unproven "English origins" hypothesis. This is the documented ceiling of the line. (Top-of-tree reconciled July 2026: Richard & Margaret of Bandon, their son John d.1708, and the died-infant Richard bapt.1727/bur.1728 are now entered and graded; the William-of-Ballymodan bridge is marked probable/unproven.) CHART-HEADER GUARD (July 2026): the hand-drawn "Damery of Tullyglass" chart (unsigned, drawn after May 1972; it records Martha's death; filed in the project; feeds the Melbourne branch page) heads this couple "Richard Damery = Ann ?, 1727, born about 1720 or 1725, born Devon?". Its "1727" is the REFUTED infant identification above; do not re-import; its "born Devon?" is tradition-grade only (the old Devon/Amory lore), recorded here as ? tradition, not evidence.
