About
Robert I (c.866-923), King of the Franks, was the second of the Robertian house to wear the crown that his descendants; the Capetians; would hold for eight centuries. Elected king against the Carolingian Charles the Simple in 922, he fell in battle at Soissons within the year, fighting his rival in person; his side won the battle even as he died. His son Hugh the Great, father of Hugh Capet, carries our descent.
